東北大震災から7ヶ月が経ち、日本ではいまだに東北地方の復興や
放射能問題が論議され、さらに今後の日本の原子力に対する姿勢の
あり方などが問われています。
夏休みに日本へ里帰りされたお母さんからいただいた手記をご紹介します。

私が感じた日本
帰国期間（2011年7月26日～8月27日）

7月24日の午前中、マンチェスター空港より日本へ向かいました。
途中ドバイのアブダビ空港より一人の日本人女性と一緒に
なりましたがやはり当然東北沖大地震の話に。
彼女曰く、「私は横浜だけど、もう日本はダメね」なんてことを
聞いてしまうとこれから子供二人を連れて帰るのに大丈夫なの？
という気にもなりました。
いざ成田へ付いてみると、相変わらずのたくさんのビジネスマンが
行き来し、海外からの旅行者も多く以前と同じ。
ただ違うのは放射能レベル？

その日は東京へ一泊、フジテレビ横では東北を応援するべく
ショップが設けられ、情報交換のブースや地産品がありました。
街もにぎわっていたし、日本は元気じゃんという印象を受けました。
夜も外の明かりが美しく、長男がびっくりしたくらいですが、
その夜地震でホテルが少し揺れ、すぐに地震の被害から
回復していないという現実に戻された気持ちになりました。

北海道の釧路市は昔から地震が多く、震度3や４は普通に経験します。
ですが、在日中は関東と道南地域で震度4と5、もちろん東北で大きな
余震がありました。
そんな折、TVで京都大学教授のこんな発言がありました。
－日本はもうこんなに汚れてしまいました。当然放射能は北海道や
南の方面、近隣の外国へも行っています。
ですから皆さんある程度の覚悟は必要です。どうか未来のある子供を
助けてあげてください。特に東北の子供たちをー。と。

今東北では個人で放射能レベルを計測する機器を持っています。
8月には電力消費量が東北で96.5％、東京で98％を超えました。
こんな状況下、政府はまだエネルギーの摂取先を変更することなど
考えてもおらず、原発の日本技術の海外への輸出,福島等の原発が
メルトダウンすらできない事情がありながら、北海道の泊原発の
再起動開始なんて国民の感情を逆なでする事ばかりが耳に
入ってきました。

どのようにオイルフィルターに動作しますか？

スーパーでの買物も、誰もが皆産地を確認してかごへ入れています。
東北を応援したいけど背に腹はかえられないと言ったところでしょうか。
桃一つが通常400円に比べ、東北産は100円で売られているのが
疑問です。機内で一緒になった女性もお米は収穫の日付が東北大地震
以前のものをまとめ買いしているとの事。国内で古米を買う人が増えて
いるそうです。お茶も然り、政府はただ放射能レベルの規制緩和を
しているだけですから。
私が話をした多くの日本人は、海外から見た日本の事について知りたい
様でした。

個人的にはどんな状況下でも、どんな所にいても日本人は日本である
美しさを失わず、「らしさ」を大切に力強く生きて欲しく思います。

今回はみんなを置いて、放射能の薄い国に帰ってきてしまうという
少し後ろめたい気持ちで日本を離れました。

One of the mothers in our school gave us an interesting report
about her impression of Japan, 5 months after 3.11, when she visited
her home town of Kushiro-city in Hokkaido.

What I felt about Japan in 2011 (26/07/2011-27/8/2011)

I flew to Japan, with my 2 children, from Manchester International
Airport on 24th July.
I met a Japanese lady at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, where
I waited for a transfer flight. Our conversation naturally led to the
Japanese earthquake in March.
She said, "I am from Yokohama. I think that Japan can't recover
anymore." Her remark made me worried as I was taking my kids to
Japan at that time.

However, the number of the business people and tourists going
to and fro at the Narita airport seemed to be the same as before.
I thought "Well, what has changed here?"
It must be the level of the radioactivity.

We stayed one night in Tokyo. There were many booths set up to
support Tohoku region's economy, next to the building of Fuji
Television Network. Some booths were distributing information
about Tohoku, and others were selling Tohoku region's foods.

I had an impression that Japan was fine, because the city was so lively.
The city lights were so bright and beautiful that my oldest son was
surprised.
However, when we had an earthquake that night, seeing that the hotel
we stayed in shake, I felt that Japan wasn't still fully recovered.

Kushiro-city in Hokkaido, where I stayed during the summer, has

frequent earthquakes of 3 or 4 seismic intensity scale (about Magnitude 3.5 – 4.9).
There were bigger quakes of 4 or 5 seismic intensity scale in Kanto,
Donan, and Tohoku regions, during my stay.

A professor of Kyoto University said on TV;
"Japan has been contaminated.
The radioactivity must have already reached Hokkaido, the south part
of Japan and the nearby countries.Therefore, Japanese people should
be prepared. Please save the children who have the future.
Especially, the children in Tohoku region."

Many people in Tohoku have their own mobile gadgets to measure
radioactivity level.
Tohoku's electricity consumption in August was 96.5% of the target.
It was 98% of the target in Tokyo.

Under the circumstances, the government hasn't seemed to consider
alternative energy sources.
So much of the news I heard was related to the Japanese nuclear issue;
the refusal to authorize exports of nuclear power plant technology,
the outstanding issue about the plant in Fukushima, and Tomari nuclear
plant's plan to resume full operations.
It was as if everything was trying to worry Japanese people.

Shoppers check the producing areas of vegetables at supermarket.
I know people want to support Tohoku, but they have to live as well.
A peach cost 400 yen, on the other hand, a Tohoku counterpart was
sold at 100 yen.
The lady I met in the plane said that she stocked up old rice, harvested
before 3.11. Old rice is more in demand in Japan recently.
The same thing is happening to green tea.
People have to protect themselves, as many people are skeptical about

the government's report.

The Japanese people who live in Japan wanted to know how Japan has
been reported, such as in the media.
I hope that Japanese people will keep up the Japanese spirit, no matter
where they are, and no matter what circumstances they are under.
I felt a little guilty to come back to the UK, where radioactivity is not an
issue, leaving my beloved family and friends.
